Electric Powertrain

In his research and outreach work, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Florian Risch focuses on the three closely interlinked pillars of electric mobility: electric powertrains, battery systems, and charging systems. As head of the Powertrain Research Sector at the FAPS Chair at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg, he coordinates the research areas of electric machine production, battery assembly, and the E|Road Center. At the same time, he heads the E|Road Center for contactless energy transfer at Fraunhofer IISB. The research approach ranges from the production of electric machines and battery systems to contactless charging infrastructure, including their life cycles and recycling.

Forschungs- und Demonstrationsinfrastruktur des FAPS für Elektromaschinenproduktion und Batteriemontage mit automatisierten Produktions-, Montage-,Handhabungs-, Füge-, Kontaktierungs- und Prüfprozessen. Ergänzend verfügt das Fraunhofer IISB im E|Road-Center in Hallstadt über Infrastktur für stationäre und dynamische kontaktlose Energieübertragung, Komponentenentwicklung, Systemintegration und Erprobung.

Joint research and development projects related to the electrified powertrain; development and testing of production, assembly, disassembly, and charging processes; technology benchmarking and feasibility studies; demonstrators and pilot processes; automation and digitalization concepts; support for industrialization, resource efficiency, and the circular economy; and knowledge transfer between academia and industry.
